Traditional Rajasthani Lady
Women in Rajasthan are very modest and certainly shy away from cameras. They are always well dressed, draped in fabrics of splendorous colors and adorning traditional jewelry. Over the years of visiting Rajasthan I’ve slowly learned how to invite them in front of the lens. Once they know you they’ll happily pose for you and it is an honor to photograph these women who take such a great pride in their culture and traditions.
I photographed this lady just outside her hut in the outskirts of the village of Luni south of Jodhpur. Traditionally dressed with a tattoo marking on her forehead just below her bindi she symbolized the classic look of Rajasthani women. They certainly cherish their heritage and the strong sense of pride shows through in their dress and deportment.

A Photographic Showcase of Rajasthan
The state of Rajasthan in northwestern India is one of my favorite places in India for photography. The brown unimposing desert like landscape throughout most of the state sets a perfect background to photograph the Rajasthani people who wed color and fabric in a way no one else does in India. In...

Ellerton’s Summer Quencher
When I was in Kandy, Sri Lanka, recently I had probably one of my best fruit drinks ever. We stayed at the Ellerton and the staff there served us a brightly colored fruit drink that would quench any summers thirst. I don’t really know what it is called but I call it Ellerton’s Summer ...
